As a Licensed Realtor, Residential Luxury & Commercial Property Specialist Melissa Mihok is excited about what the future holds for the Tampa Bay region, especially St. Petersburg. Her favorite part of working in real estate is the steady growth and new developments always on the horizon, as more businesses and opportunities emerge and unfold in the community.
Melissa was attracted to join the Barkett Realty team when she discovered that Owner/Founder, John Barkett, provides a wealth of real estate knowledge and support to his agents. She knew it was the right fit and the brokerage she wanted to join. "It was important to me to have the support of a knowledgeable broker and a great team that works well together. Not only are we like family, but we are also dog-friendly!” says Melissa, proud "dog mom" of a beagle mix named Bradley Cooper.
Melissa began her career in 2006 at Coldwell Bank Commercial in Sarasota, bright and eager to build a career in real estate. Commercial real estate was her first interest, as she enjoyed setting businesses up for success and finding buildings and properties that enabled them to grow. Melissa’s previous corporate experience, including executive level management with Fortune 500 companies, gave her a strong understanding of the factors needed for a company to grow and succeed, a key piece of that being their real estate decisions.
One of Melissa’s proudest career moments to date involved the following: an office building, an adjacent property, a heaping scoop of creativity and a dash of determination. Her client was in the process of purchasing an office building when they also became interested in acquiring the adjacent property to add value to their investment purchase. However, the adjacent lot was not for sale, so Melissa had to creatively work with the seller of this lot to sell to her client. She acquired both properties for her client, adding value to both parcels. Additionally, her client was able to receive rental income from an existing tenant leasing the office building. When it came time to sell the property only a few years later, her client was able to sell the two parcels combined for more than double what her client initially purchased for.
Although Melissa has a wealth of experience and passion for commercial real estate, she is also a successful residential real estate agent. Among her residential accomplishments is a memorable success story in the Vina Del Mar neighborhood of St. Pete Beach. Melissa guided a young couple through the challenge of selling their Vina Del Mar home in order to purchase a larger home in Bahia Shores on St. Pete Beach to create more room for their growing family. With a baby on the way, the couple had a tight time frame selling their home and purchasing a new home. Melissa helped her clients overcome this unique challenge and through nimble, creative solutions, she was able to successfully get them into the new home just in time for the new baby!
Melissa is energized by her clients and is motivated to help them achieve all of their real estate goals. She shares, “I am driven and dedicated to making their real estate sales or buying experience the best!”
In addition to Melissa’s genuine passion for real estate, she also enjoys giving back to the community in various philanthropic efforts especially Heels to Heal. As Founder and Executive Director of the non-profit, Melissa facilitates a program that provides free crisis counseling services to victims affected by domestic violence and sexual assault in the Tampa Bay area. Through her efforts, she has positively impacted the lives of children and adults affected by abuse in the local community.
A perfect Sunday afternoon in sunny Tampa Bay for Melissa includes a day with her fiancé, Chad, on their boat and grabbing lunch at a waterfront dining spot with Bradley and Mahi. Melissa and Chad enjoy family time, and cooking a special dinner for their parents is the highlight of their week.
